The NFC's Adopt-A-Tank Program
Conservation is fun !

School Tank

We at the NFC realize how important public education is. We know that through the diligent efforts of Teachers, Youth Leaders and Parents many a child has been exposed to Native Fish via fishing or a home aquarium. This exposure has led to a lifetime love affair with conservation, the great outdoors and our native fishes.

To help further that proccess we have developed a program called Adopt a Tank (AAT). AAT is simply putting kids, NFC volunteers,an Aquarium, and Native Fish in the same place at the same time.By placing an Aquarium of local fish in your classroom it turns into an educational opportunity of the finest kind. Kids learn about aquarium maintenance, the needs of native fish, basic fish identification skills, life history work, and in some cases they will get the chance to collect those fishes themselves. What better way to fall in love with your local fish than to watch them in a classroom fish tank.

We provide lesson plans, networking via our own email list and help in acquiring fish and equipment. Contact the AAT administrator Deb Branson at Odysseynor@aol.com for more details.
